Chemonics International Inc seeks a local chief of party for an anticipated four-year USAID-funded program.  For more than 36 years, Chemonics International, a U.S.-based international development consulting firm, has partnered with local and international organizations to promote social and economic change in Africa and around the world. 

Our work began in West Africa in 1976 in Cameroon, where we improved rice production and in 1977 in Mali where we revived a drought-depleted livestock sector. 

Since then, we have expanded our expertise to address a diverse range of challenges in education reform, conflict mitigation and management, decentralization, rule of law, anticorruption, private sector development, trade, agriculture, health, and nutrition.

Our experience extends across the African continent and in West Africa includes Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal.

Job Description

The project will support improving reading and numeracy instruction for early age children, teacher training, education management, and material development in English and mother tongue languages.

Responsibilities for the chief of party include:

  • Providing overall project leadership and vision to the team, serving as the project's primary liaison with USAID, government counterparts, and local partners,
  • Overseeing project work planning, financial management and budgeting, and
  • Ensuring that all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate.

Required Skills or Experience

  • An advanced degree in reading, education, and/or relevant fields preferred;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing international donor-funded development projects, preferably education related, required;
  • Familiarity and/or experience working in Ghana;
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity;
  • Strong communications skills and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.
