Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) has engineering vacancy in Ghana to recruit for Civil Engineer. The Government of the Republic of Ghana (GOG) has secured a loan and a grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) amounting to UA 70 million. The loan is meant to finance the Development of Skills for Industry Project (DSIP). The project is expected to establish a high quality, equitable, market-responsive and cost-effective technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system in order to increase the number of immediately employable Ghanaian graduates; restructure the skills development sector to ensure increasing access, reduce the skills gap; modernize equipment; train teachers and generally improve the quality and relevant of TVET offerings. The Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) is the executing agency for the project.

Job Description

COTVET plans to apply part of the proceeds of the above facility to eligible payments under the contract for the engagement of suitably qualified person for the post of Civil Engineer to be based at the Project Support Unit of the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) in Accra.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The post holder shall be responsible for:

  • Reviewing the submissions of the project design and supervision Consultants to ensure consistency with acceptable standards and the project objectives.  The submissions to be reviewed include:-
    • Structural drawings and structural analysis,
    • Structural integrity survey reports
    • Dilapidation schedules
    • Structural and civil engineering documentation/designs including earthworks, drainage, water supply and reticulation works, waste disposal systems, geotechnical reports, pavement designs and external works (walkways, fencing, landscaping etc);
    • Specifications and details
    • Health, safety and environmental issues
    • Bills of quantities for civil works and drawings
  • Refining and consolidating the scope of work in order to fit within the budget allocation for each individual institution
  • Participating in monthly site meetings at project construction sites
  • Ensuring the safe keeping and documentation of all project records in both electronic and hard copies formats
  • Participating in bid evaluation for contracts for civil works
  • Assisting in monitoring and evaluating the performance of the design and supervision consultants and contractors

Required Skills or Experience

The Civil Engineer will have the following qualifications and experience:-

  • A University Degree (Honours) in Civil Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized University
  • A minimum of five (5) years post graduate relevant experience of which at least three (3) should have been in handling large projects involving new building construction and extensive renovation and/or expansion of public facilities in a busy professional work environment, preferably spread over wide geographical areas
  • Possess a recognized professional statutory registration with the relevant Professional Body in Ghana or others recognized in Ghana and also possess a valid (year 2012) practicing certificate
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) and MS Office Suite
  • Extensive experience, working knowledge and familiarity with international funding agency procedures
  • Demonstrable experience in contract management and administration of complex/multiple projects with several contracts running concurrently
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English

Job Description

Camfed Ghana is seeking to recruit motivated and dynamic individuals to support its programmes. 

You will provide support to the Executive Director in managing strategic partnerships and in external communications and advocacy.

Specific duties include:

  • Knowledge of international development issues from the perspective of organisations and governments, especially in education, gender and youth development
  • Experience in developing partnerships at the local and institutional level, building working teams, coalitions and alliances between organisations
